The Family Apartment

Coming later this year is our third Airbnb. This was Raymond Viner Hall's family residence that he designed in the 1940’s. Here is a sneak-peek of where we are today. We still have a couple of major projects to accomplish but each day we get a little closer to opening. There are all the usual hallmarks of Raymond's designs with its sandstone floors, the use of mahogany built-in furniture, Walter’s beautiful stonework and of course a very unique fireplace. Some of our other favorite features are Raymond's use of glass block to illuminate what would've been a very dark center hallway with natural light. There is also a very subtle change from the main building with the use of rounded corners on the plastered walls. Part of our rehabilitation of it has been to add air-conditioning and heating, update the kitchen and bathroom – most of which was gone before we purchased the property, and refurnish the apartment with items that Raymond would have specified for some of his other clients.

An early floor plan

This is one of the later iterations of the floorplan and is true too the final build for the Family Apartment.
